This is getting a bit tedious guys Its annoying enuf hearing people argue whether its 'Jungle' vs. 'Drum and Bass' Can we just get back to calling it music? rant over kill100music wrote:
I hear there's this great new group from Australia called Pendulum. Have you heard them? They've got a tune called The Vault, proper heavy, being played out by everyone. Zinc dropped it twice at The End, sick tune, but it was on a CD, so I think that's selling out a bit - real DJs use vinyl innit.

Tbh honest, the music is getting too fast, and there's too many Americans on DOA that dress up in pyjamas, wielding shotguns. Reason isn't a proper sequencer you know, and it's all a bit too loud, but it's all good yeah, because Grooverider has bare dubs from Twisted Individual coming out on Prototype that he lost in Dubai. ajtonic wrote:

To be honest I think this type of categorizing has a lot to do with killing underground music ... People become so obseesed with their little sub styles , sub genres that they wont tolerate anything outside of it which is just downright silly ... " I only play dark techstep" or " I only play ragga" errr, right. There is so much good music out there you tit! Why limit youself based upon superficial labels ? This type of pigeonholing can generally be found in all walks of music and life... "Im a punk rocker , therefore I only listen to punk music", "Im a hip hopper , I cann only listen to West Coast hip hop " This mentality just stupifies me O.S.Dvil wrote:
Aye, I Much prefer somebody describe me the different quirks & characteristics of a song and its melody or the off way the drum rolls than give me one word I need a dictionary to figure out. I'm kinda an old f'er man. I don't think it should always be this confusing, heh.

I love variety too! Thats my whole point! Do we really need a new sub-style for every record that sounds different than the next??? cypherism wrote:

sub generes are okay, but sometimes it gets a bit ridiculous. if someone asks me what I play, I tell them "jungle/drum'n'bass". specific enough. I play pretty much any sub-style under aformentioned genres.

The tricky thing with subgenres is that everyone catagorizes stuff different "this is clownstep" "no this is jump-up" "no dude clownstep is what liquid fans call jump-up" seriously people, shut. the. fuck. up. nobody cares. It's great that we have them, but arguing about them is childish, pointless and pathetic. |
