Vitalic - Flashmob

Vitalic - Flashmob
really impressed with Vitalic's newest album! like everyone else i first heard him via the Poney EP. La Rock 01 and You Prefer Cocaine of course being the classic cuts. I then got OK Cowboy and it was pretty decent, but lots of tracks i wasn't that into. i have been waiting for his follow up for, well, years now and finally got ahold of Flashmob. like i said, i'm impressed! the whole minimal/tech house saturation in the dance music world influenced him somewhat and it shows on some slower, more restrained tracks but overall, what we have here is strong, creative techno-electro floor killers. Poison Lips is one of the best disco tracks i've heard in the past couple years. Second Lives will probably go down as the most anthemic cut on the album. five listens later and i'm still not bored of it. his sound can get a little overdone after 5 or 6 straight tracks, but each of these tracks stands on their own and i'm looking forward to integrating them into a few of my next dj sets. overall i think it's much stronger than OK Cowboy, more consistent, mature, and a wider diversity of sounds and ideas. great job Pascal!

Only thing I've heard by him was the remix with the hacker of Shari Vari, which was shit. Never heard anything else by him.

lol i love the enthusiasm around here. AEK, you've never heard La Rock 01?? it was in rotation in pretty much every techno DJ's record bag a few years ago.

i think i like Vitalic's sound because it has a lot of roots in Giorgio Moroder style disco as well as oldschool EBM. when he gets it right, it's fuckin great.

I got a promo of Flashmob last month and it's been slowly growing on me. I have always liked his remixes more than his original work. The remix he did on Hacker, The - Fadin' Away (Remixes) is one of my all time favorite tracks, period. So is Bolz Bolz - Take A Walk (Remixes). Of course, those came out around the same time as the Poney EP, when Pascal was clearly on fire as a producer. I had mixed feelings about OK Cowboy, but I eventually got the 2CD special edition. "The Past" is probably my favorite original production of his. It is absolutely beautiful. I liked the remix of Shari Vari that he did with The Hacker, when it came out, but I got sick of it after about the 50,000th time I heard some neo-electro DJ drop it. I also liked the Bells EP he did with Linda Lamb. Not as much as her "Hot Room" track, though.

So far there's nothing on Flashmob that impresses me like the above tracks, but both versions of See The Sea are pretty good, and Poison Lips is grooving fun. The titletrack is grating, and Chicken Lady is shit. So is One Aboe One. Still is ...okay, I guess. The rest of the album ranges from decent-if-monotonous to downright dull. I have to give it a few more listens before I really pass judgement, but I've never found Mr. Arbez's quality control to be the best. Lucky for him, when he's good, he's really good.

Ultravod - nice review. Ironically the more I've listened the album, the more "dull" a few of the tracks seem to me now... definitely agree with you on the title track and One Above One. some of the female vocals are really annoying. i've listened to the album front to back about 6 times now and i still think Poison Lips, Second Lives and the See the Sea's are pretty awesome, and worth the album purchase.

Thats not a misprice. They valued the actual music :P.
This CD is nothing new and definitely worst than previous Vitalic stuff around 10 years ago, like someone already said.

I got the album, and it's not brilliant. I'm going to see him tomorrow in Matter, London (sold on the fact that there's a blackstrobe DJ set as well). If anyone else wants to go and wants cheaper tickets, go to http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/use...827&interface=matter and put FLASHMOB in the promotion code box. Tickets are £10 with the discount.
