Mainly records, all second hand. address: Weteringschans 33 Rhythm Import - Three story shop; downstairs large collection of soul, r&b and hip hop, and jungle, trip hop and techno on the third floor. Great techno collection. Especially renown for their hip hop. The techno dept. is usually closed on Sudays. address: Nieuwe Nieuw straat ? Rush Hour - Specialised in drum & bass, techno and house. Vinyl only. Carries all essential new releases, and maintains a great back catalogue. Seems to have a supplier unknown to most other shops, as it is the only Amsterdam shop that has a regular supply of stuff like Skam and Musik aus Strom, both old and new. address: Spuistraat 98 Tel: +31-(0)20-4274505 Soul Food - I'm not much of a soul man myself, so I've never been inside, but it's supposed to be a specialist soul shop. address: Nieuwe Nieuwstraat 27C uzumaki edited this message over 2 years ago. d.troit wrote:

I'm pretty sure Rush Hour carries a small stock of cd's as well, only underground stuff obv, and definiteley far fewer than records. If ur a cd only buyer, def worth a look anyway. Fame on the Kalverstraat sells vinyl too, or at least they did a while ago. Bigger more mainstream minded shop, Virginish, but carry some dance, techno, electro and trance as well.

Fame indeed sells vinyl though it's not that much. The vinyl is not cheap. It's more a CD and DVD store where you can find all kinds of music and movies. tom wrote:

I left out the big chains like Free Record Shop, as they are easy to find anyway and probably not of interest to anyone on Discogs. I kept in almost every shop (even some very mainstream and small) as long as it: * specializes in anything, * is outspoken about any part of their collection, * or if they do 2nd hand cd’s/vinyl. Some of the descriptions below were copied from Bunkerheadz post (first one in the thread). I also try to keep this list up to date. So if you know any changes, just post on this thread. Shops mentioned in earlier posts, but not repeated in the list below, have closed in the last few years: Get Records, Boudisque, Plaatboef, Virgin Megastore, Dance Tracks, Rhythm Import. --- Absoluut Vinyl Waterloopleinmarkt In front of the Stopera on the canal. Waterlooplein hosts a rather commercial flea-market, open every day, except sundays. This stand sells 2nd hand vinyl. This one is usually open for business. There are more stands selling records, but not all of them are regulars on the market. Amstel Antiques Near Rembrandtplein on the Amstel 110. This shop sells 2nd hand furniture and antiques. Also a lot of old vinyl; pop, rock, new wave, punk, soul, disco, jazz, etc. It's not possible to listen to the records as there are no turntables. Back Beat Records Egelantiersstraat 19 Small shop specializes in latin-jazz, acid-jazz, rock-jazz, vocal-jazz, fusion, swing, bebop, hard-bop & other jazz, soul, gospel-muziek, blues, rhythm & blues, new orleans, cajun & zydeco on LP/CD. Concerto Utrechtsestraat 52 Big store (actually several linked together), best known for their used CD & vinyl department, which is the largest in Amsterdam. They carry just about everything, and sometimes you can come up with original Kraftwerk pressings and stuff like that if you work your way through all the shit. Just keep browsing. In the other departments you'll find pop, rock, dance, metal, classical, blues, jazz, pretty much everything actually. Also a good DVD section (movies, some music). Discostars Haarlemmerdijk 89 2nd hand cd’s and vinyl. This one is a bit trashy. More a neighbourhood shop, really. Distortion Records Westerstraat 244 One of the best and nicest shops in Amsterdam. Very eclectic. Lots of records. Lots of different styles. Mainly vinyl. From guitar and electronics to the lastest releases in minimal techno, d&b, house, electro and dub-step. Usually very up to date, although it can be a bit messy, which means you sometimes really have to dig the crates to find records released more than a month ago. Eargasm Haarlemmerdijk 180 Small separate shop on the first floor of Most Wanted (Latin Music). 2nd hand vinyl: Soul, Jazz, Dance, New Wave, Pop, etc. FAME Music Kalverstraat 2 Huge shop which easily gets on your nerves. Quite a lot of techno, house and dance cd’s, but if you compare it to the many smaller specialized record shops in Amsterdam, you realize there’s really not much need to go here. Their DVD-stock is a bit more interesting (back of the basement, after the huge piles of dvd’s from US tv series). Fat Beats Amsterdam Singel 10 Specialised in hip hop, reggae, R&B and breaks. They're in the basement of the shop where Rhythm Import used to be. Flesch Records Noorderkerkstraat 16 2nd hand vinyl. Classical, Jazz, Soul, Beat... Only open at the end of the week (Thursday to Saturday) and on Mondays. Gigantic Sint Antoniesbreestraat 15 Small shop with CD's. Groove Connection Record Store Sint Nicolaasstraat 41 Lot of goa trance and club techno, almost exclusively on vinyl. Indeep ‘n’ Dance Rozengracht 60 Club, techno, etc. Small shop selling mainly vinyl. Independent Outlet Vijzelstraat 77 In the basement of a skateboard, sneaker and streetwear shop they sell hardcore & punk records, Also some New Wave, Pop, etc. Both on vinyl as on CD. A lot of 2nd hand stuff. Musiques Du Monde Singel 281 Extensive collection of world music on cd. Muzikat Sint Antoniesbreestraat 3g Small shop with some vinyl, CD's DVD and quite a few books about music. Outland Records Zeedijk 22 Dance, techno, house, club music. All vinyl. Their techno shop in the basement has closed. Also selling some dj-equipement and a lot of designer toys. Outland is also a record label. De Platenkoning Hasselaerssteeg 12 Retro games (old/vintage computergames, handhelds, tabletops and cartridges). I believe that the ‘platen’ (records) are only sold through mail order. Record Friend Sint Antoniesbreestraat 64 2nd hand and re-issues. Pop, Funk, Rock, Soul. Only vinyl. Record Mania Ferdinand Bolstraat 30 2nd hand vinyl. Record Palace Weteringschans 33 2nd hand vinyl and a few cd’s. Opposite of Paradiso. Selling music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Nederbeat is a 'speciality of the house'. Also some Reggae, Dance, Soul / Funk, Jazz, etc. Rush Hour Records Spuistraat 130 One of the best and nicest record shops in Amsterdam. House, techno, electro, disco. A place to find stuff not so easily available in other record shops. Also a record label and distribution. Second Life Music Prinsengracht 366 Buying and selling vinyl. Pop, Rock, Soul, New Wave, etc. Soul Food Nieuwe Nieuwstraat 27C Specialist in soul. Velvet Rozengracht 40 New and 2nd cd’s and vinyl. Also a small collection of dvd’s. Usually not too expensive. Also mail order. Wax Well Gasthuismolensteeg 16 Shop specializing in hip hop, funk and seventies disco. All vinyl, most 2nd hand stuff, a lot is imported from the USA. Very central, located on one of the small streets west from Dam square. sptnk edited this message 6 months ago. distorientation wrote:

That is brilliant. Boudisque is closing. Not sure when, so keep it on the map for the moment. They're having sales at the moment. Waterlooplein is not where you think it is. It's much more in the center. Also missing a little shop on the Amstel 110 called Amstel Antiques. Could be okay for anyone into Jazz. funprox wrote:

Another shop probably closing down soon is Killa Cutz; Nieuwe Nieuwstraat 19. From Monday June 16th they're going to have sales. Jungle, D&B, breakbeat, some disco, electro, etc. + minimal house / techno from Germany. And jazz record store Blue Note (Gravenstraat 12, Amsterdam) also went out of business this month, but that's a shop where I've never been. So I can't give any details about that story. sptnk edited this message about 1 year ago. Alain_Patrick wrote:

Try these: Flesch Records Noorderkerkstraat 16 2nd hand vinyl. Only open at the end of the week (Thursday to Saturday) and on Mondays. Small shop, specialized in older records; Rock, Soul, Jazz, Avant Garde... Record Mania Ferdinand Bolstraat 30 2nd hand vinyl: Rock, soul, funk, punk, many different styles. Not sure if they have much from the sixties... But you could give it a try. And maybe this one: Amstel Antiques Near Rembrandtplein on the Amstel 110. This shop sells 2nd hand furniture and antiques. Also a lot of old vinyl; pop, rock, new wave, punk, soul, disco, jazz, etc. It's not possible to listen to the records as there are no turntables. sptnk wrote:

Seems that Mevius & Italiaander has closed. No idea if they moved elsewhere. Shop space is now for rent. sptnk edited this message 9 months ago. elisel wrote:
They have moved to Deventer - they could not find a new decent place in Amsterdam at an acceptable price.
