Music Myths

Theres been loads of them - any that you know ?

One I heard was that Robin wants revenge was actually Derrick Mays backlash for Nexus 21's Real Love - think it may have had something to do with Derrick and his Robin Hood guise .... and the D May album called the beginning of the Beginning of the end (Think it was called that using my ropey memory)... that apparently some people told me back in "da" day they had but I never ever saw it.

I think most popular myths involve unreleased stuff, although after so many years of boisterous statements and zero output to back it up I kind of lost interest in Derrick May's archives. I'd like to hear the album Gerald wanted to release after Automanikk, but CBS apparently has no interest whatsoever of releasing it. Other than that I did an interview with Larry Heard last year and he told me he has archived material for 15 albums worth, including unreleased Finger Inc tracks with Owens and Wislon and lots of Acid. Being burnt on contracts he is probably very reluctant to give those away, but it's good to know there is some more to be heard by Heard.

This could be a real serious topic of discussion and with all due respect I first would like to say that Joey and myself have had quite a long ride with both extremes of positive and negative events during the 16 years we have known each other.

@Joey - Now this is almost like scripted and with everything that has happened since I saw you last March in Florida, don't act as if I went and pushed any buttons. That being said I would love to hear why you think that is a myth?

And again, I am not going to post anything that would be anything but actual facts. My question here would be: Do you really want to discuss this in an open forum?

I mean my long term memory is really on point down to dates, times, places, events. Can you actually believe that this is a myth? Regardless of what is posted only two people really know which would be you and me.

It really is 100% bullshit. Not the actual quote, but everything else attached to the 16 years. And I have no problem saying I am sorry about all that bullshit, but let's for now keep this topic to the point.

How did you get your record deal with R&S records?

and continues here.

Now that is the very start of New York City and R&S Records. It started as two back to back releases found in the database of Discogs which both are actual 'cover' versions of two of my own releases. Are we staying on track here?

LOL..yeah, and what did that do for me? Nothing.

But we know the effect I had on you

So how did you help me?

By the way, 'Eyes of a child' , where did this track come from???

Joey. Don't rush your posts, kid. Think about what you are posting first. Because I am not going to deny anything here.
Every action has a reaction and you will get everything you want out in this topic without walking away with the truth.

Now let's rewind back to the two records I linked. The EFB record "Ecstacy Recall" comes way after you were signed. Of course you had an effect on me. You do remember sitting in my Garage on East 88th Street when I first played you that track in my Monte Carlo, right?

As for the "Eyes Of A Child" track? That is personal. I asked you if you wanted to tell the history. I would rather keep that aside for now. That is because I am not going to open up any cans of worms here....

OH BTW? No edited posts so far.

Now Joey, I am not coming off hostile, so why are you coming at me hostile. You see, I know there is more at stake here then to
turn this into some kind of flame war.

You do think I am that stupid, don't you?

Your Digital Vamp bootleg came out after 'Let it ride', but nice try.

So those links were supposed to answer my question, then yes your right they did.

I don't expect Joey to sit here posting because he really does have better things to do then sit on Discogs. Not to mention the time. But I would never bullshit about any of this.

You have to realize that Renaat went into the studio and did "cover versions" of two of my records in 1989. When I did not recieve any type of royalties, Renaat then allowed me to release Digital Vamp in the U.S. on Groove Records. The release came out right after the opening of Groove Records in Brooklyn (April 21, 1990).

But with all due respect, does anything I am posting suggest that all of this is a myth? I am not going to do put my own credibility in jeapordy by lying. When Renaat did those two cover versions and we contacted him (we being Silvio Tancredi and Tommy Musto) the first thing he wanted to do was put out an original Musto & Bones track. But we just got signed to XL.

I had just met Joey. He pressed up 500 copies of his record "Let It Ride" by Direct. I will link that up in a minute.

It was at my request that Renaat should take a listen to Joey's track "Let It Ride". All he had to do was listen to it. And I told Joey to send him a copy. And if I am lying may God strike me dead. It was really no big deal. Joey's abilty to make records is not in question here. That record was banGin'....

And the rest is history.

Stay Tuned.

LOL...so thats your story on how i got signed to R&S, huh? :)
It was as a personal favor to you, was it?
Otherwise he woulda opened up his mailbox and said "WHATS THIS?? I aint fucken listen to this shit!!!" ...and threw it in the trash I'm guessing.

LOLOL

yeah, stay tuned....see ya!
posted over 3 years ago. ( permalink | report )
Damon Wild wound up renting out the basement of that very same house we lived in.

BTW - here is the link for the 500 pressings of Direct.

Now, Joseph "Fucking" Beltram, what the fuck is wrong with you?
I never said he would have thrown the record in the Garbage. In fact I would bet he would have put the record out regardless of if I asked him too....

Everyone reading should know Joey was going to make history in techno regardless of if we had ever met or not. I never name drop him like I discovered the talent. Nugroove deserves credit for that.

That being said, it is the small things that mean the most. It was really going to happen either way IMO. But Joey said it was a myth.

Bullshit is what you posted, Joey.

Where in any of this topic do I sound like I am bullshitting?

For real. I told you I am not here to play games.

Joey's words once again: "LOL...so thats your story on how i got signed to R&S, huh? :)

Otherwise he woulda opened up his mailbox and said "WHATS THIS?? I aint fucken listen to this shit!!!" ...and threw it in the trash I'm guessing.

LOLOL

yeah, stay tuned....see ya!"

Now after all of this, we never got an answer on how Joey got his record deal with R&S. But from the looks of things, Joey never said that is not what happened, so where do we stand within all of this?

I never suggested it was a personal favor. What happened is that Renaat wanted some real New York flavor and here is Joey with this self-pressed 500 copy release of a record that he made. That record is one of my favorite Beltram tracks and anyone in my position would have did the same thing.

Anyway, I got to get some sleep.

All I got in this world is me, myself and I. And I don't know why anyone would assume I would sit around some campfire and bullshit about something that has some real meaning to me and my life.

Beltram ain't Pacou and sure as fuck is not painless. There was a time where I loved that kid like a brother but sometimes people take a step up and decide to break a code of honor amongst friends.

That was a long time ago. 16 years in the mix. However you want it you got it, but dont test me. I might dis other people but I don't distort or dishonor those who are close to me.

You are not going to see me edit one post in this topic. Show me one post in here where I dishonor the history or tell a lie.
See that is not going to happen because it ain't me to fuck around with things that are written in stone.

At least this time around shit is real. This is not an argument with another Ogger or another guy that just makes records. This is a topic about someone who did exactly what I did to get his own and rightfully said, did it as good or even better then me depending on how you want to look at it.

I am not getting anything out of telling the history of our New York Underground. We were small change if you compare us to Todd Terry, Kenny Dope, Little Louie Vega. But we stepped up out of the streets, Queens, Brooklyn and crossed oceans to get what was ours, straight up.

I'm not sure what this is truly about. But I know by the time it all comes out, I will still be standing on my own two feet doing what I have always done to make it to this post and I'll be damned if I am going to act a fool and disturb what has been said and done. Fuck that bullshit.

Even Beltram thinks after reading pages of arguments with me, Pacou, painless or whoever that I am going to go that same route? What kind of fool do you take me for?

No, I mean for real...

History is written in the vinyl, not in the forums. And not in Bold.

@ Joey : Your music talked for itself, then, and nothing else can claim any share of your success. But Bones havin' talked about you to Renaat doesn't mean he's responsible for anything, except having been kind that day, perhaps ;-)

@ Frankie : Joey would have been signed anyway, I'm sure : the record he sent to Renaat certainly blasted his mind as it did for us all. But your help certainly added a small thing to the process. I guess that's what you meant...

So again, just like always, the truth is everyone is right, just a question of pov. Truth doesn't exists, there is just what we write on our soul day after day, with our thought and acts.

But again this forum shows one thing : the more word, the more trouble : that's why old wise men speak so little. (and so do I, of course, ah ah ah!)

Well, I really don't know if I should be posting this story, but anyway...

I had a very , very close friend many-many-many years ago.

Now, we're not friends anymore, for he did something (also) many years ago that I thought was completely dishonorable (like inviting me to be his partner for a big event, loosing money and taking prejudice (as well as another friend) three times more than him, just acting as if nothing happened.
So, instead of being a true friend and asking if we needed help, this old friend just got all the money from the drink bottles left to loose less money. Alone.

I don't know, I feel like he has really been the proudest fellow ever all these years since then, thinking he is simply the best in the whole World, and posting that all over the way.
It is very difficult for me to forget some things (specially when it comes from someone ya would never expect) - but nowadays, I don't know why, so many years have passed - I don't feel angry or hurt anymore.

My other friend who was terribly affected by that event result years ago - decided to forgive him but I, I never said a word to the fellow in question since then.

Even though, I think we were all so naives, so young - and we were not prepared to face the commitments we've been through.
Know what?

I decided recently to keep only the good memories in mind. I lost a very close parent recently and it made me think about the inevitability of life: death.

One thing is for sure: we are not eternal, (not even in 3 a.m. LOL), so it would be better if we keep in mind the good moments of our lives...

This is not directed to anyone in special, I just wanted to post this story - and I'm very sorry for the off topic *(you can delete my post if you want).

Sometimes it's nearly impossible to forgive someone. But, after all, we should always ask ourselves: "Was it intentional? What about all the rest? Didn't worth it?"

Th KLF aren't 'The Freedom Fighters' they pretend to be, ie. taking F de Wulf's 'Liaisons D - Heart Beat' to be their own, because they were pissed at him sampling them.

Kopyright Liberation Front ? Buncha ARSE.

'@ Joey : Your music talked for itself, then, and nothing else can claim any share of your success.

thats how i read it too. Dont think it was meant to be condescending...?
