Because it can be anything you want it to be. To me, techno is a way of thinking and an approach to sound, more than a narrowly defined style.

It is made with the specific intent to take the listener deep into the realm of the mind. Each individual can experience visions of his or her own identity and future. Techno instills hope that there is a place that is ours. Not owned by country or corporation. I'd like to use techno as a weapon on small minded humans. Dose them and sub bass them. Cook they're inner minds like a slow roasted turkey.

listening to techno usually takes me away from the now and into my own selfish place where I am usually "alone" and disracted from the stuff you need to forget about sometimes ie escapism. I am rarely happier than when absorbed in a wall of electronic sound (not necessarily techno). some of you may have seen me in that place.

theres also a measure of it being a special interest and different from the norm, maybe elitist.

i also agree with Mayday's remarks about sound experimentation; both during the production but often by me as listener

For me it is the extra imput on the percussion which has me in awe alot of times...for the most part, techno has generous heaps of percussion going on in the rhythmical patterns if compared to other styles of dance music....as a precussionist, I am drawn to it like dope to a junkie...
