My great (ahem) sets from back in the day always mix mostly house with a little disco here and there, or house with sets of hip-hop and reggae interspersed. As you know, Disco is a bitch to beat-mix properly, so I've always prefered listening to the old masters like Jim Burgess, and on DHP the guys like Discotizer and lots of the other board members as well. I'd rather hear non-mixing that bad beat-mixing anyday. And the old-schoolers who did do flawless disco mixing mostly stuck with the same "sets" of songs that worked together, including Burgess, so their sessions get predictable. That said, it'll pobably be months and months before I have my TT's set up for mixing again. Anyone else? _Hawk_ wrote:

Discomixing means to keep an eye on all horns, basses, the orchestra, etc..., and make faster transitions than for eg house. Difficult but not impossible. fistondub wrote:
I lov'em when they are really worked, I'll also try to do mine when I have the time, these are tricky for transitions ....I'll try to include some pure disco tracks in a "house" set....which makes it easier because it's nearly impossible to make transitions last like for techno mixes and most of the time you have to wait until the end of the track....

I know Frankie and Adam since my days DJ-ing at The Palladium and having my own record store around the corner from theirs. I'd like to check that mix out! Thanks. DownTown.Music, I found it on Mixes Forum :- Bones's 80's Block Party Mix Here -
I especially like when the sampled sound bang-bangs on a few tracks (the mix with Chic & run-dmc is maaaddd)....+ gino soccio etc etc :) Another_Swede wrote:
When I mix electronic music I always mix the tracks together as long as possible, its more fun for me.... When trying to do the same with Disco I get into trouble, now I keep it as short and as possible, just using the crossfade. Let's face it, short mixes (4-8bars), cuts or none at all are the best, people want to hear when the new track comes along, or? Its possible to rock a party without managing one mix just as long as the trackling is great.

Getting off the topic here but in Stockholm DJs play what I call Dub Disco, hard underground disco with no vocals... Why don't DJ want to play vocal cuts? Is there a reason, maybe this is just a Stockholm thing? I hope you guys understand what I mean. Although, heard Daniel Wang DJ some weeks ago and he played cheesy peaktime Disco hits and it worked so well, the girls love it ;) PS, Please add tracklists if you share a mix, so frustrating otherwise. as this forum and especially this topic seem to be suitable for submitting mixes, here's one promotional disco mix of mine which I did early last summer. I did it as a promotional CD for an event agency, as they wanted some music for their client and it was suppose to be some sort of mainstream disco. Mix is done with one turntable and reworked afterwards, but it has a continuous flow. Edit style, you know what I mean. George Spruce - Raw Goodies Edits It's a mixture of quite popular disco tracks and house, enjoy. sp07 wrote:

Use a sound effect. Slam mix the incoming song on the downbeat or upbeat. Pause for a second. It's about the MUSIC, not the DJ or the mix from one song to the next. jackamoto wrote:

They're mixed on a 1200's and a UREI 1620 mixer straight into a computer - I will admit that a couple of the blends take a few runs to get right (or "good enough") though. Davejay, nice spotting - that latin track is in fact Modern Romance's 'Can You Move'. Hilarious rapping and a great track all round. There is an instrumental and also a different dub version called Salsa Rhapsody on a different WEA 12".

Change your technique. While mixing House, it's most common to leave the crossfader in the middle, mix with both hands, each one on the channel fader. When mixing Disco, I suggest to keep both channel faders at the top and work with one hand on the crossfader and the other hand on your pitch control. This helps to adjust more rapidly and accurately. Another trick is to when pitching in a chorus to also mix in a chorus. The BPM of Disco tracks vary tremendously, especially when you compare the break to the rest of the song. In addition to that, you might want to mix only from break to break. So skip the entire beginning of the track, and mix it in as of the break. One last trick for the little ones amongst us, learn how to count to 4... :) MI wrote:
