Philo Recordings

Philo Recordings image
Profile:

Formed in 1945 in Los Angeles by brothers Eddie Mesner and Leo Mesner. The Mesners owned a record store called the Philharmonic Music Shop.

In February of 1946, the Mesners were forced to change the label name because of the similarity to radio manufacturer Philco, who at that time was thinking about starting a record division. The Mesners were going to change the name to Medlee Records — and even announced it in the trade papers — but then decided on Aladdin Records.
