Backroom Records

Profile:
Backroom Records started with it's first release in January 1998. A collaboration between BRR’s Ian Davy and Dorset based artist Hectic Ego (a.k.a. Steve Edwards). A four track E.P. of twisted breaks and the biggest of beats, it was well received.

Much of the next year was spent setting up websites and mailing addresses, and to ensure that all business angles were covered. Ads were placed for artists and demos were received. The label had begun to gain momentum.

Things began in earnest in June 1999 with the signing to the label of Hoista! (a.k.a. Hoi Wan). His first release for the label 'The Fruitify E.P.' featured in the DJ Magazine breaks chart, received a good review and amongst the key supporters for the track were Deejay Punk-Roc and Les Ryder of Cream. It also reached number 4 in the influential Carbon Records chart (published in Muzik). Released in June 2000 (these things take time!), distributed by Soul Trader.

With the finalising of a distribution deal with Unique, early 2001, BRR are expanding its artist roster and pushing more releases more often.
