Chopped Herring Records

Started in 2001 by then-Manchester-based DJ Chubby Grooves aka Pro Celebrity Golf. Only 1 release a year for the first 3 years of the label's existence culminated in 2004 with the epic cut-n-paste mix Three Sinister Syllables. Since then label owner and artist Pro Celebrity Golf has been acting in more of an A&R capacity excavating lost/little known 90's Indy Hip Hop material as well as brand new DOPENESS and releasing it for the first time on vinyl in limited quantities. Since the beginning of 2011 they have released projects by D-Stroy & DJ Tony Touch; the 'Welcome to the Great Outdoors EP' featuring Action Bronson, Meyhem Lauren and Shaz Illyork; the first part in a series of unreleased demos from THE definitive NYC underground Hip Hop group Natural Elements, a lost project from '1993' by Tha Grimm Teachaz (aka Hi-Fidel and Serengeti), one of the most elusive, 'holy grail' status Hip Hop projects of the 1990's, Da Henchmen's 'ILL Cyde Vaults 1993-1995 EP' and Outdoorsmen member Meyhem Lauren's 'The Total Meyhem EP' which includes the modern day NYC graf anthem 'Got the Fever'. The most recent release was some 1992-1993 Unreleased material by Old School, Strong Island residents J.V.C.F.O.R.C.E. and they just started taking pre-orders on the next project, the 2011 "Dr Lecter" album from Action Bronson on double vinyl as well as an EP of instrumentals from the same album.
