Now defunct independent Brooklyn based, Soul & Funk label founded and run by Gabriel Roth and Philippe Lehman between 1996 and 2000.
Both founders were renowned for strident personalities and a slight but significantly different emphasis on the sound they preferred.
Lehman and Roth parted ways in 2000, and went on to found new labels reflecting their musical preferences.
Roth went on to found Daptone Records with an emphasis on a cleaner, soulful sound, with Lehman going on to found, the now defunct, Soul Fire, to feature a dirtier raw funk sound and even dirtier new funk and Latin sounds. Lehman later went on to found Truth & Soul.
