Enzyme Records

Profile:
Enzyme Records came to be after Patrick van Kerckhoven decided to lay Gangsta Audiovisuals to rest. Contrary to popular belief Enzyme was not founded by Endymion and Nosferatu but by Van Kerckhoven. The idea behind making the world believe that he had retired was to give all of his artists an equal chance to develop themselves fully without having to stand in Van Kerckhoven's shadow. Everyone believed his retirement to be real for at least two years; and some still do to this day. This was also the only option he saw to restart the label and continue it in a new style of hardcore. The move to Enzyme also produced the deliberate death of the 'artcore' sound made popular by Ruffneck Records.

Reviews & Discussion

Review by Athracene Dec 12, 2007
THE most over-rated label, and sub-labels, in the history of hardcore. Some say its 'experimental' or 'groundbreaking, i say BOLLOCKS. maybe in the beginning it was this way, but now? I think most releases sound good because of Patrick Van Kerchoven's ultra tight mastering, therefore we are left with outstanding kickdrum clarity, melodies beutifully blended into the tracks, yet the foundations of the tracks sound no different to the rest of the commercial dutch gabba labels today, with the exception of a few releases by ophidian, which in my opinion, although more refreshing than most other enzyme related releases, are too, way over-rated.

One of the most consistent and innovative labels in the hardcore scene at the present time, With its policy of different styles encompassing the whole spectrum of industrial/experimental hardcore(Ophidian,D'sprye)"party" style stuff(Weapon X,D-Dr!ve) and techno edged tunes(Project Omeaga,Nexes)with most of the artist being multi talented meaning that most of the release's have something for everyone.

The only real downside is the people that buy their records with the soul aim of ripping people off by charging double or tripple the standard price for records that are often less than a couple of months old.
