FRESHLY SQUEEZED MUSIC is a Brighton-based, UK independent record label and publisher.
They evolved from the seminal London club night,
Club Montepulciano that ran for over 11 years. The club became a "clubland institution" (Evening Standard), described by Time Out in 2004 as one of the "things you have to do before you can call yourself a real Londoner". Having pioneered the emerging Lounge, Cabaret and Burlesque scenes through out the 90s, when the sound and style went mainstream, the obvious step was to set up a label.
Club Montepulciano Recordings (AKA
Ciano Records) ran in parallel to the club and released a series of what were to become genre-defining compilations. They featured the best contemporary lounge music from a collection of forward-looking international artists. The label also released the debut album from the clubs resident DJ,
Lemon (5) and the work of various other artists.
In 2005, when the club retired (while still going strong) Freshly Squeezed was created to broaden the roster while releasing a second artist album from
Lemon (5) and music from
Voodoo Trombone Quartet, The,
Pinker Tones, The and
Foxgluv.
With eclectic and excitingly individual artists such as
Don Air,
Dodo,
Stereo De Luxe,
Product 01 and
Lodekka now putting material out on the label, indie-chart success, an MTV Dance top ten and the
Eclectrik label sampler - nominated one of the "best records of 2007" (Bearded Magazine), the label aims to continue to find fresh, quirky and original music that is both underground and accessible.
