| Profile: | Gaia Records is part of GaiaLive Internet Radio.
GaiaLive is the world's 1st Internet Radio station. Established in late 1995.
It is now the longest running online music facility, and hosts the longest running shows on the internet, the oldest and best of which is the spongeboy & tench show, called "tcom", which airs every saturday from 1400 to 1600 UK time.
Originally netcasting using real audio from Demon's offices, it then got it's own studios in the back-end of Islington (next to MetalHeadz).
After a break-in GAIA moved to the Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, and ditched the real audio sponsorship, choosing instead to broadcast in the sexier QUICKTIME format (www.apple.com) which has matured into the 64k stereo mp4 broadcasts of todays live output.
Partly responsible for the glut of online broadcast facilities now available, gaialive has remained true to it's core values. While other major brands, notably the BBC have copied everything that gaialive originated, and industry heads such as Gilles Peterson have sold their souls, gaialive has stayed the course.
GaiaLive was set-up by DJ Redz (Freek FM), Mr C (The Shamen) and Steve Kennedy. Taken over subsequently and still owned/run by Timothy Paul Read, it has covered every major UK act and music scene, as well as all of the major international names too.
After some wiseguy bought the gaialive.com domain, tim waited for it to become available, and now the main site can be found at www.gaialive.com/
