Get Live Records (2)

Profile:
Get Live Records, founded by hip-hop entreprenuer Dr. Rock, is one of the earliest hip-hop labels to come out of Western Texas (also see Get Off Me Records). The label helped bring exposure to Rock's group the Fila Fresh Crew featuring a young emcee by the name of Doc-T (who would later be more widely known as D.O.C., The). However Dr. Rock was a little too late as his star protege Doc-T abandonded the crew to seek more lucrative opportunities in Los Angeles. Get Live Records consequently dissipated soon after releasing two singles from the now defunct Fila Fresh Crew. Dr. Rock thus left Get Live Records and also relocated to Los Angeles to sign with Par Records two years later.

Reviews & Discussion

Dr. Rock had an occasional DJ gig in a Los Angles' club named "Eve After Dark". He then moved to Dallas and got a Saturday night radio show where he featured his young protege Dr. T (aka Dr. Tray aka D.O.C.). When Dr. Rock invited Dr. Dre down to do an edition of the show in 1987, Dre took note of how good D.O.C. was, and made a deal to produce 4 songs for the upcoming Fila Fresh Crew album. In turn, Dre stole D.O.C. out form under Dr. Rock, relocating D.O.C to L.A.
