Harlan Records is run by Nate Powell and began as a small comics publishing imprint called Food Chain Productions. Powell decided to expand into music in 1994. Food Chain Records changed its name to Harlan Records in 1997. The label originally focused on artists from Arkansas, or who had connections to that state, but has now expanded to artists from other places.
