One of the main outlets for Jurgen Driessen's early work, Important was responsible for some of the true acid classics. 4 out of the first 5 releases contain some of the most manic and spellbinding 303 builds ever put to vinyl. Later releases tend to go a trancier route as Driessen started to embrace a more toned down style of production. The 303s are there, but used in a less abusive fashion. Works like Exposure, Bon Appetit and Attitude EP are perfect symbols of what happened to the rave scene as the 90s wore on. Producers changed their styles from a raw, energetic sound to one that was supposedly more evolved and nuanced. In the process, they took the heart out of their music. I'm still waiting for an explanation as to why this happened.
