| Profile: | Island Jamaica was established in 1995 by Island Records, PolyGram, and Chris Blackwell. It marks the return, after a 33-year absence, of the Island brand to its original home. As the first long-term investment of a multinational music company in Jamaica's recording industry, it also reflects Blackwell's lifelong commitment to the country where he was raised. Island Jamaica also operates the Island Village retail centre and four Island Outpost resort hotels on the island.
In 1996, a short-lived sublabel, Jamaica Jazz (sometimes called Island Jamaica Jazz), was launched.
This label in Discogs is only for 1995 and later releases bearing the "Island Jamaica" brand. "Island Records" releases belong elsewhere, such as Island Records or Island Records (US).
