Lowlands was launched into the world in '92 by
Tom De Weerdt, in an attempt to present to the Belgian public a wide variety of open minded innovative music. Through Lowlands a variety of interesting labels are distributed in Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg coming from different musical backgrounds. Cutting edge labels as well as more accessible ones find their way to the Belgian audience via Lowlands. The Lowlands catalogue includes releases in the broad field of house, nu lounge, drum 'n bass, dub, exotica, latin, breakbeat, contemporary, experimental electronica and jazz. This is what Lowlands stands for: originality, quality and musical integrity always remain gatekeeping standards throughout a huge output.
After some years of intensive distributionwork, Lowlands was ready to take off for the creation process. In order to give an artistic platform to musical talents of all kind, six independent sublabels were created, where the breadth and ecclecticism of Lowlands can be found : Lowlands, Downsall Plastics, Audioview, Surprise, Super, Musique Belgique Archive.
End of may 2008, within a declining market, Lowlands decided to terminate its distribution activities and further focus on the sublabels.
