Luke Records began it's existence in September 1990 after George Lucas' legal team got involved and forced Luther Campbell (the label owner) to stop using the Luke Skyywalker name.

The label was originally named Luke Skyywalker Records. Owned by Luther "Luke Skyywalker" Campbell of 2 Live Crew fame.
