| Profile: | HISTORY:
March was founded in 1992 with the release of a local band compilation called Uncharted. At that time, March was run out of a spare bedroom in the DePaul neighboorhood of Chicago. No fax machine, no computers, nothing but ambition and a long road ahead.
PHILOSOPHY:
To spread the word on international pop artists. It seems the current state of music is in dire need of intelligent, sophisticated pop music. Fun, yet moody. Creative and original, yet familiar and genuine. March artists typically have 'hits' that you won't hear on commercial radio or MTV, so we hope the word of mouth generated from our releases will take over the independent music scene without spending truckloads of money like major labels and irresponsible indies.
IDOLATRY:
Coming of age in the 80's, the founders at March are very influenced by adventurous labels like Creation, 4AD, Sire, Big Time, Go! and Twin/Tone. Also, current labels like Thrill Jockey, Siesta, Shinkansen, Flavour Of Sound, Bambini, Riviera, and Shelflife, seem to be doing a pretty nice job of releasing records. A dream roster at March would be: Trembling Blue Stars, Lloyd Cole, Stereolab, The Zombies, The Apples In Stereo, Francoise Hardy, Beastie Boys, The Human League, Echo & The Bunnymen, Big Star, Trash Can Sinatras, TLC, and Petula Clark. We'll keep dreaming.
