Marco Lenzi and Marco D’arcangelo founded molecular recordings in 1994. The aim was to create and promote a facility for the artist, for research and production in the area of the electronic-techno music sound. From this was born one of the U.K.'s most respected techno labels. Other than being busy with this, Marco d'arcangelo works on more experimental projects, releasing with labels such as Rephlex and Nature.
Molecular means cutting edge techno, evolving with the time, but concentrating on releasing good quality music. The concept is to fuse innovative minimal and funky sounds with solid beats yet still dance floor friendly. As a label Molecular Recordings is always a couple of releases ahead, to plan to far ahead can be dangerous. We are more interested in keeping the quality up and the sounds in line with the times, rather than planning a years worth of releases. We release when we have something we believe in. We are also very proud of being open to new talents. Take Inigo Kennedy for instance, we met in the shop when he had just won a recording competition on kiss Fm Manchester. We really liked his style, so we released some of his material to a great response. We are quite happy with things we've had out so far: K.Hand remixes, Inigo Kennedy, Holy Ghost, Dj Bone, Colin McBean AKA Mr. G, , Jamie Bissmire, Oliver Ho, Anderson Noise, and Chris Liebing, to name just a few. As for the future, we will continue to sustain the standard set. The XX series: limited editions(500) with no artist and no tracks names, basically a deeper branch of Molecular, where established techno names are allowed to experiment further. These days there are not enough new artists emerging. Techno has become more professional now, the production itself is evolving, which is a positive thing because techno is technology. On the other hand, we have to say that techno is also becoming a vague idea, because there are too many styles grouped under the name "techno". Furthermore being cutting edge nowadays is not enough. One also needs to know how to use technology and develop and research it in the area of sound.
