New Alliance Records was founded in 1980 by
Minutemen members
D. Boon and
Mike Watt, along with friend Martin Tamburovich. Early releases by the label included records by the Minutemen,
Descendents, and
Hüsker Dü. Watt sold the label to Greg Ginn in 1986 after D. Boon's death. Greg reissued several of the label's releases through
SST Records while using the New Alliance name to issue a number of spoken word releases, as well as some more musically adventurous bands. New Alliance stopped releasing albums in the mid '90s and its back catalog has been deleted.
