Japanese major record label. It was founded in 1927 under the name 日本ビクター蓄音器株式会社 (Nippon Victor Chikuonki - in English, Victor Talking Machine Company of Japan). In 1943, the Japanese military ordered the company to rename itself 日本音響 (Nippon Onkyo). In 1946, the name was changed again to 日本ビクター株式会社 (Nippon Victor). The company continued to release records under this name until 1972, when it was renamed ビクター音楽産業株式会社 (Victor Musical Industries).
Records released between 1946 and 1972 with the words 'Victor' or 'Victor Company of Japan, Ltd.' or the His Master's Voice logo on the labels should be assigned to this label. Those released after 1972 should either be on
Victor Musical Industries or
Victor Entertainment Japan.
