French label established in 1967, as a subdivison of Dutch label Philips. Prospective 21e siècle issues share a common pseudo metallic sleeve and a repertoire coming from Musique concrète, to electronic academic music, electroacoustic music or avant contemporary music written for small or large ensembles.
Prospective 21e siècle records were issued and distributed in Europe after 1970 with sleeve notes in English, French, and German, sometimes with an outer stranslucid sleeve with geometric printed patterns in order to create kinetic effects. Most records only came out in France, but some were issued in The Netherlands, England, Spain and Japan. Some of the recordings have been supervised by French composer Pierre Henry.
