SKAM a label with over 15 years of history of music… its sounds trembles you around. As a label it is full of rarities, maybe this is because the limit they issue their releases. Relatively tads of the releases are the kind, more you listen, more you value. For me the good thing of this label is that they fuss on a style and the best for them they issue, result of this is the few releases in 15years.

Skam records. The be all end all of electronic music. Look no further, this is straight up raw music. Supreme terror meets supreme beauty in the medium of intricate sound design. The mesh of analog/16bit warmth with digital sequencing. Most of the releases are in the industrial/hardcore/break beat/jungle/acid/idm vein but there are a few extensions to other facets of their collective vibe. From the strange braille stickers on each of the releases, unnamed artists that rock your speakers with vigor, no publicity upon their new releases, crazy promotional items that have no reference to music or any release, this label is too damn slick for anyone and they know they can get away with it. Ebay still pulls big dollars for their older vinyl oop releases from back in the days. It will be intersting decades from now when these releses will be marvelled upon by the next generations of electronic music listeners.

Just when you think Skam is going off the boil it pulls something amazing out from behind its back. The last Wevie Stonder ep (Kenyan harry) and the Shadow Huntaz 7" were just not worthy of release on any label let alone a label of Skam's reputation. Then you get records like the team doyobi remix ep and quinoline yellow's cyriak parasol which just sound like vintage Skam and all is forgiven. Guess I'll be paying attention to the label for a while longer yet...

For most people who are not record collectors with trust funds, just get 0161 and Skampler. They are fairly available and you’ve really got the highlights. For the most part, everything past #10 is pretentious crap and the older stuff is good but not worth the cost. Look for the mp3s in the all the usual places and laugh at the investors. The exceptions here would be Bola Fyuti which is great and the SMAK series has its moments, again both are readily available on CD.

Wicked label that always produces quality music, but marred by the fact that most of it is released in limited amounts that are near impossible to track down and these are bought and traded by absolute geeks for stupid sums of money who then never listen to them and just store them away to sell the next time they need money for computer components. Best releases are the Gescom singles (Autechre alias) and the Boards of Canada album (joint release with Warp) which is exceptional.
