| Profile: | R&B and hip-hop label started by Jermaine Dupri in 1992. Initially it was a joint venture with Columbia/SME Records but in 2002, relations turned sour and Dupri switched distribution to Arista. In 2004, it distribution was switched the Zomba Label Group, a unit of Sony BMG.
In 2005, Dupri took So So Def to Virgin/EMI Records, where it found new life. However, in 2007, Dupri changed bases again, this time with the Island Def Jam Music Group unit of Universal Music.
Note: Unlike other labels that switch distributors, So So Def’s releases remain with their initial issuing label.
