The label resulted from Sony Music Entertainment (UK) Ltd. restructuring their three label structure (Epic, Columbia, S2) into one UK label, on September 30th 2002.
(In 2006, then "Sony BMG Music Entertainment", Sony Music re-organized themselves into the Columbia and RCA Label Groups, with a revival of the Epic label following in March 2007.)
