Launched in 2001 out of what was once the "Sugartrax" music store in Rosebank, Johannesburg by DJ Mbuso and Harael Salkow, SoulCandi has become South Africa's leading vinyl importer and a major independant label (in a joint venture with Sheer Music).

The label's first release was the very successful "SoulCandi Session 1" compilation in 2003.

Imprint Phezulu Records split off from the SoulCandi Music Group in 2006, and in August 2007 they launched an on-demand music service available via the local cellular networks.
