Founded around 1996 and originating in the pre-internet music tracking scene, Tokyo Dawn Records (TDR) was one of the first "tracking groups" making the next step of becoming a "netlabel".
Tokyo Dawn is known for its unusual promotion and distribution ideas. It was one of the first internet collective experimenting with the idea of open source music, p2p distribution and free music just to name a few. The label was nominated 3 times for the PopKomm Online Music Awards.
Stylistically it is covering the whole range of "black" electronic music and beyond, from House and Drum'n'Bass to Soul, Jazz and Hip-Hop.
After bringing out a numerous and appraised output over the past decade and being home to artists like Resound (previously known as Krii), Comfort Fit, Mentz, Domu, Blaktroniks and many more, TDR was declared dead in 2006 and relaunched 2009.
The heads behind Tokyo Dawn are Marc Wallowy and Fabien Schivre.
