Transient was founded in West London in 1994 by Russel Coultart and Lawrence Cooke (Disco Volante) to release their own tracks and those from other artists on the London party scene. Music policy was mostly Trance and Psy/Goa-Trance.

Transient Records effectively closed their doors for about a year during 2005. They re-launched in early 2006 under the leadership of Greg Coyle with DJ Kristian (3) on A&R. The first release was the appropriately titled Resurrection compilation. It was proposed that sub-label Automatic would restart at the same time with Greg himself doing the A&R.
