Ugly Funk started as a clubnight in Leicester in 1997 aiming to bring new exciting dance music beyond genre limitations and pigeon-holing to the people. After successful parties with appearances by such diverse artists as Surgeon, Cristian Vogel, Subhead and Squarepusher, Ugly Funk moved to London in 2000. With a monthly clubnight established, the next logical step was their own label, to create a wider platform for associated and like-minded artists.
