During early 2002, feeling the heat of the R.A.V.E. Act and seeing what it was doing to the underground electronic music community, we decided to try and help in some small way instead of just complain. I went to a screening of "Rise, The Story Of Rave Outlaw Disco Donnie", a small independent documentary chronicling a day in the life of the New Orleans underground and the now infamous promoter, Disco Donnie. At the time Donnie had just emerged from a long and expensive lawsuit with the U.S. Government. We released the soundtrack to "Rise" in an effort to bring awareness to the unfairness of this law and inspire the electronic community to keep moving forward. Utensil Recordings was born.
San Francisco based Utensil Recordings has evolved over the last few years releasing artist singles on vinyl and digital downloads. Our musical focus is the underground dance floor. Be it house, techno, min-techno or electro. We strive to bring fresh sounds and innovative production to the world by cultivating new artists.
