Wally's Groove World

Profile:
Belgium's finest deep-house label.

The label was founded in 1997 by DJ Koenie. The name was taken from his second hand vinyl shop based in Antwerp. The label actually emerged out of the store because upcoming artists used to shop with their demo tapes. Ar first there wasn't really a musical style preserved for the label: deep house, break beat, ...everything was possible. The aim of wgw is to get Belgian artists that little more attention that they deserve.

As Wally always says: Music is the healing force of the universe.

Reviews & Discussion

Review by reyez187 Sep 06, 2005 (edited over 4 years ago)
Very nice Belgian label, founded by the ever-busy Koenie, which was one of the first to put out some deep house releases when Belgium was being hit by the deep house craze which derived from a club called 'Food' and which had a super club/cult status at that time. Although there was no strict policy as it concerns the stuff they were releasing (producers or friends usually dropped by at the Wally's Groove World shop and handed out a demo) people were delighted because there was no label or whatsoever releasing the music they wanted to hear. The quality of the catalogue isn't always that consistent, most of the tracks are simply based on very obvious samples or are just plain rip-offs from oldskool disco cuts. The spirit was mainly one of people having the time of their lives jerking around with cubase and being crafty with some loop they stole. Nevertheless some records are underrated examples of good musical taste. And I'm still a big fan of their artwork.
