X-OR started in 1990 by Gert-Jan Prins and Luc Houtkamp but since 2001 is run by Luc Houtkamp and Wiek Hijmans.
As a metaphor for the record label's policy, the term X-OR stands for the choice of clear and radical, uncompromising music. In this policy, the emphasis is on improvised and electronic music, although contemporary music and rock are also included.
All releases with the catalog prefix FR are part of "The Field Recordings" series of live and/or private recordings in a limited edition of 500 numbered copies.
