Reviews & Discussion

Review by 8m2stereo May 30, 2008
Zehnkampf (transl. Decathlon) was an innovative collaborative music releasing approach curated by Frankfurt musician Bodo Elsel in the second half of the 1990ies. He invited friends, musicians and other artists to share 10 percent of the production costs of each Lp, contribute one of the 10 tracks and then recieve 30 of the total 300 copies for own distribution. The records were pressed in the Czech Republic, each volume came in different coloured vinyl and contained a surprising varyity of electronic musics. Some of the artists meeting for the first time through these releases then invited eachother to collaborations and live or Dj sets at their hometown clubs. Bodo Elsel had a major underground electro dancefloor hit with his track "Fantasie Mädchen" which first appeared on Vol.7 / Acid Rock and then was signed by Playhouse.

The missing Zehnkampf #5 was a series of t-shirts in black, blue and olive with the label's logo printed in white, #10 was to be a double Lp but was unfortunately never released. There are a total of 600 copies of Zehnkampf Vol.6 due to a free repressing run of additional 300 after a small click on the first batch.
