Most Overrated Dub Techno/Minimal 2000-
Dub and minimal techno albums I found disappointing in lieu of their high rating and effusive critical and listener praise.

Some of them aren't bad, but most of them, in my opinion, are not masterpieces and some are not even particularly good. Some of them are actually okay or even good but the reputation exceeds the work (to this author, obviously).

I have listened to all of these (I admit a number of them I zoned out on when they couldn't keep my attention).

Don't take this too seriously, it's just one person's list, if you like you can think of it as a "best of" list if you strongly disagree with it.

An absolutely gaudy rating, for music that is okay but not much else.
  2. 2
Nothing new here, rating is through the roof. This one really deserves a slap-down, if this is a masterpiece I think we'd all be better off listening to crap. This came out in 2011 but it sounds like a cloned/carbon copy of some of the earlier works you find both on and not on this list. The derivativeness of this album is borderline insulting.

Bvdub is the Brad Pitt of dub techno. Chuck Norris facts are now referred to as Bvdub facts. I like 3 of his releases, but this isn't one of them unfortunately. They all seem to get the same high marks regardless of content however.

The amount of praise for this release could be called ejaculatory. By Jove it's a hipster circle jerk! As I write this I'm on the track "Oude Kirk"... I don't know why this is genius. If you stuck a nobody's name on "Oude Kirk" I don't think people would be jumping out of their seats to proclaim this the best thing ever. "Sofitel" - the bass is fine but I swear I have heard this exact same type of dub techno track over a hundred times.

The praise around this album feels like a pyramid scheme to me.

I think I could put the entire cv313 catalog on here... monotonous, repetitive, with little to distinguish itself from better work from the associated artists.
  11. 11
Flat out don't get the attraction. W/The Artists is great listening, what is this?

I feel somewhat bad about having this so high, before I listened to this album I heard so many great things about it, I wanted to like it... I'll give it another listen, hopefully the switch will be flipped.
  15. 15
4.80? A rude jest at the listener's expense.

It doesn't help that this is one of those hipster-directed releases where all the tracks are listed as "Untitled." Bah! No Christmas bonus for Bob Crachett this year.
  18. 18
Speaking of hipster-directed schlock - look at those unconventional track titles. An album best listened to whilst drinking a $15 cup of coffee.

You'd think from the number of positive ratings this was something special - really, I ought to bump this higher on the list, because it is a substantial disappointment.

Sounds a lot like everything else. Blah. Rating says it's awesome though.

I do like Lilies quite a bit better and Atol Scrap somewhat better.

Vol 2 is actually quite good.

Two things this album had a lot of: hype and disappointment.

Very hip track titles. Music isn't bad per se but leaves no impression vis-a-vis the high rating. Megrim had a different sound, more unique and distinctive, I liked that album much better.

I don't understand the very high rating, it sounds fairly generic. The album titles are very precious.

It's not bad at all but it my opinion it was pretty disappointing - I was expecting a lot. Great effort and innovation - it's like a movie with a great premise and a good start but ultimately doesn't come through like you would. Either way listen to i t.

The original is fine, it's the remixes that mostly seem flat.

Lower rating but still rated too high.

Uniformly high ratings, regardless of output! This is another one I'm not as fond of.

You're not legally permitted to speak badly of Moritz... but listen to this album and tell me it lives up to the hype.

Monolake is hit and miss for me. This is a miss, Hongkong, Gravity, and Momentum being much more to my liking.
