This is a list of great music that got redicovered all over the planet. Obscure views on music that is more than just music, it's a time document. Musical archeology at its best.
I found the original copy of this record on the fleamarket and it was an incredible buy. This is freakbeat at it's best. The drummer Clem Cattini and 3 unknown sudtiomusicans start a percuassive firework with no end. The hammond driven sound in combination with heavy funk drums bring up one of the best reissues i know so far.
Sleazy soul-jazzy funky seventies from the middle of Austria. Hmmmm, Gerhard.... Austria's most sexy Gerhard Heinz composed vor 130 soundtracks including hits like "3 Schwedinnen in Bayern" or "Die Nackte Gräfin".... Sweet stuff!
Incredible selection out of the swinging Iranian beat scene of the sixties right before everything got shut down by the mullahs. A true musical treasure....
Aha, very intresting. Some black community from Chicago & Detroit gets serious with the "Home to Zion" phenomena. In The Seventies when Jamaica's Reggae people discovered Jah as their true leader with "Rastaaafari", "Babylon System", "Israelites" and "Halie Selassie". This community based in the Detroit Soul Scene converted to Judaism and emigrated to Israel. There they lived in their kibbutz and still made music, combining US soul with hebrew lyrics. It's israelian Soul-Jazz Funk that rocks hard.
Montparnasse2000 - French jazz-funk composers at its best. Good selected compilation out of their hard to find libraries. Incredible Breaks and Rhythms. Janko Nilovic, Jacky Giordano and man more incredible musicians join up for this superb reissue.
Mulatu Astatke now gets the the recognition of his genius. This french reissue of the 1972 Amha Records compilation was one of the first steps to re-discover Ethiopian Jazz from the Seventies. Ethipiopian Artists came back from studying jazz in the UK and combined that with their typical 8 tone music. Incerdible soul-jazzy sound with lots of drumming and even caribean salsa influences. A Must Hear!
Goblin, the musical background to Dario Argento's horror movies are synth-prog italo veterans that still rock every dancefloor with their timeless tracks. Early Synth with hard drums and heroin space....
A Good View on Austria's soul-jazz and bossanova scene of the Seventies and Early Eigthies. Obscure Funk heros Atlas bring up an incredible cover version of "Ain't no sunshine when she's gone". Recordings out of a time where the Austrian Broadcasting ORF wasnt just a crappy TV channel trying to get viewers. But that is another story, what i think about their "Bildungsauftrag"....
Canadian instrumental hiphop treasure label "Bully Records" releases a wide compialtion of strange tracks all around the globe. The Prog-rocky, soul jazzy and psychey compilation brings lost music from Uruguay, Argentina as well as from Turkey and other countries. A very good compilation....
Stay in Turkey, where heavy Anatolian funk breaks come from. Mustafa Ökzent and maybe the ape on the cover bring up incedible funky driven music that you would never think of. A very special reissue.
The blind viking who always prefered to live on the street than in luxury. He got rediscovered by Mr.Sruff's hit "Get a Move On". An incredible lifestory and musician.
A Very funny compilation, especially when you speak German. A broad colelction of Promotional tunes and scores with great vocals. Frucade, Zigarillos and Cacao is promoted to funky rhythms of Germany's funk composers. Very funny!
Ghana Soundz, one of the first compialtions that focused on Ghana and their afrobeat, highlife time of the Seventies. Some incedible floorshakers next to sexy "Make it fast" soul tracks with heavy rhythms.
Camino del Sol, a soundtrack to a sunrise after a party on lake Garda's italo cosmic disco temples of the late Seventies/Early Eigthies. Smoothe Brazil with nice synths. Great relaxation!
Reggae organ god Jackie Mittoo's first recordings when he moved out to Canada. He joined the jamaican community in Toronto and soon started to record regularly. These recordings may sound a bit cleaner than what you are used to when you hear Rocksteady orginal releases. That takes a bit, but also gives a lot...
Music from El Topo - on the backside you see a popo (German for ass). A naked pistolero in a high noon sitaution in deluxe spaghetti western of the sixites. Bossa Psyche Funk that bring it to the top!
Colombia Colombia! Way before cocaine was the biggest selling pleasure. Salsa like you never herad before, nothing to do with the mid 40ties parship dancing nights.
2 Germans on the way to the moon. Space robotors and soul jazz. The same German composers also released "The Vampires Of Dartmore" another horror sixties beat pearl. Here they show that Peter Thomas is not the only German who knows about the universe.
Much more funkier and funnier than the cool uk guys. La Linea a pure classic, the only shity thing on this reissue is a house remix song on side A. Fuck that, but the rest is entertaining like rest is always....
Another Soundtrack of Argento's horror madness. This time not goblin but their mastermind Simonetti bring it to the top. Synths and drums that feel like produed recently. Here you can see that electronic music didnt evolve much in the last 30 years.
After hearing an old song of Silver Apples on the radio, Dan Taylor called the station and got in touch with his old partner again. When they met again they discovered a collection of tapes among the Silver Apples memorabilia. Seven complete songs recorded in 1969, plus seven instrumentals of Dan playing drums in 1968. Simeon took these instrumentals and added "noodles" in 1998, thus composing new tracks after 30 years.
