Only one out of 30 or so US 1970 presses that I've seen has a sticker on the left inner gatefold listing all the musicians on the record, including the Dead, what was the story here?

Not heard any other versions to compare, but this sounds pretty decent to me. Nice flat quiet pressing too. I remember someone saying that they thought this version was the best sounding out of all the others he'd heard.....I presume that he must have heard a few different ones.

Excellent remaster. Epic space opera from the Jefferson Air Force. Essential.

If you take the most boring song from every Jefferson Airplane LP and combine it, this is the record you get, kind of. It should have been called "Songs Jefferson Airplane wouldnt record because they´re too lame and booooring. And sucks"
Very tedious and pretentious hippie drivel. A total waste of the PERRO musicians too, avoid this and enjoy them on David Crosbys "If I could only remember my name" instead. Kantner completely failed to do what Crosby put together with those superduper-musicians.

I always wondered why I couldn't really get into David Crosby's "If I could only remember my name", and this album finally explained why... Crosby ripped off this album best he could... but still failed to do what Paul put together with essential contribution of Grace... so glad I found this album and an original to boot - hearing the sonics of this group in this era with this analog technology is the reason I collect records.

Almost a Jefferson Airplane album along w/ an all-star cast of local SF/West Coast rock superstars contributing to this amazing science fiction spacey proggy-folk-psych creation. It so easily could’ve been another piece of pretentious hippy drivel but the songs and arrangements save it. It has all the hallmarks of a 60’s acid-folk musical concept: rambling song structures, lots of strummed acoustic guitars, flanged & phased lead guitar feedback, multiple spooky and beautiful voices in echo-enhanced harmony & other spacy psychedelic effects. In the top 10 of 60’s psych classic albums (IMHO).
                    A wonderful trip.

An amazing album which, in my opinion, is a timeless musical jewel. It was not only an occassional album in the solo projects of the various members of Jefferson Airplane and their family of musicians, but also a significant step ahead in Paul Kantner's musical and political ideas. Prior to this album, the way to change society was through a "traditional" revolution. But this album is a step into space, where allegedly mankind could evolve into a better and more fair type of society. To me, a high, high point in the Bay Area/Northern California rock scene of the 60s and the 70s. I worship this album.

It boggles my mind to see ppl say this album was overlooked. It ranked #20 on the Billboard chart - which was the norm for Jefferson Airplane albums at the time. And it achieved Gold status by 1981, about a decade to reach that 500K sales milestone. It's true that critics at the time gave it terrible reviews. So, it's absolutely true that this album was underrated. However, that was an era in which the new wave of music journalists at Rolling Stone, Creem, etc. were abysmal nabobs of negativity. They totally missed the mark on many seminal albums than just this one. Hindsight, right?!
