This is what you get when a young corporate "indie" (read: expendable) rock band agrees to do exactly as it is told. A calculated smash hit. 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl' never convinced me for once it has the slightest sense of decency or honesty about it. One of those typically clichéd 'cool' rock hits of all time, for conformists who'd like to play it 'cool' but end up playing it 'safe' - an obvious 'Lust For Life' rip-off with occasional 'My Generation' rip-offs... with additional reference (or two) from various others...

Whoever thinks "sex, drugs and rock'n'roll" do the trick here, think twice.
