referencing Loney, Noir., CD, Album, SPCD 731

A very beautiful folk-pop-indietronica album that comes from Sweden from a man compared with Jens Lekman again and again. Loney, Noir, anyway, does not need comparisons to stand out: the subdued, pretty and very very dense production gives the highlight the album has to make the falsetto of this amazing songwriter/producer sound heavenly and intimate. Guitars over guitars over organs over choirs and keyboards and flutes and computers and more and more percussion, in a kind of Phil Spector album from mars. Maybe the songs have not much variety, but the emotional power and the catchy tunes are impossible to deny, though sometimes the melancholy can become a bit suggary, like when he sings "I'm sorry, honestly I'm sorry". Other times, like "I am John", "I will call you lover", "Saturday Waits" or "And I Won't Cause Anything At All", simply everything works, from the gentle electronic arrangements to the overdubs and nah-nah-nahs. Admirable and memorable.
