Pink Floyd ‎– Meddle

Textured sleeve.

I just bought this in Israel. It matches the data provided in this listing, but the front cover has the printed text Pink Floyd Meddle with "Echoes". I think this should be reflected in this listing.

Sublabel must be "EMI Records New Zealand Limited". According to Discogs data "EMI Records (NZ) Limitetd" was little bit later than 1971 (year of the first "Meddle" release).

Last night I figured out what Echoes is all about, while laying in my hammock under the stars. I thought it was just a bunch of psychedelic gibberish, but it's not. The Floyd are friggin' geniuses...

Echoes is about acquiring, losing, and regaining our spiritual connection to the sun (and to each other).

The first lyric passage is about our most ancient ancestors that climbed out of the primordial sea in search of the sun. Something drew them toward the light—a deep understanding that all living things owe their existence to the sun.

The second lyric passage is about the current stage in the evolution of our species. We walk around in a sort of stupor, with eyes cast down. We rarely connect with one another and try to understand why we’re here. When by chance our eyes meet, we begin to realize that we are all the same—all children of the sun. But the realization is fleeting, and we return to our mindless daily routine. Nobody is forcing us to be this way—we have brought this upon ourselves. Man vs. Himself.

Between the second and third passage is the “spiritual storm”. We must wake up and realize the true nature of our being before its too late. Will we survive or perish? ...

The storm passes, and a new day is dawning. We have emerged into the next stage of our evolution. More spiritually aware. More able to connect with each other. We realize the sun is at the very core of our being, and it’s the thing that binds us all together.

The third lyric passage is a dénouement. It’s about waking up that morning after the storm, throwing open the windows and calling out to the sun as if to say, “We are awake now.”

For me this is the ultimate Pink Floyd release. Especially because of the track Echoes which perfectly covers the change in the psychedelic style towards the "new" style they had with Dark Side.
Everything just fits, the lyrics are brilliant, the guitar riffs are still revolutionary (the way they play the melody is just awesome). The break, where they create all these noises on their guitar and than the buildup to the second part where it goes all out. Super!

One Of These Days is a timeless track which still has so much power and energy in it. YOu could play it 35 years ago, you can play it nowadays and we will definately play it in 50 years.

Another track that catches my attention is San Tropez, the ultimate feelgood track. Always makes me feel like we're back in the 30's. Probably because the piano melody which sound a bit big band/ratpack-a-like.

The other tracks are all very good, even though I'm not fond of Seamus. But they are a bit typical for that time.

This was meant as a preview to "Dark Side Of The Moon" and is my personal fave of all the 'Floyd albums I have. "One Of These Days" has to be one of the most interesting pieces of rock I've ever heard. If you are feeling adventerous and want to hear a different side of Pink Floyd, I highly recommend this album.
