Joanna Newsom ‎– Have One On Me

Ive also had a poor vinyl copy, random cracks all over the place, but the album is so good it kinda makes up for it

I own the vinyl version of this album, which is a beautiful thing to gaze upon. However, after listening to high-quality rips of the CD version, I can plainly tell that the vinyl mastering is sub-par. The vocals are dampened and everything just sounds kind of unremarkable. The dynamics on the CD version are much more 'present', whereas the LP sounds flat. Perhaps I got the last set stamped from the plate? In any case, my LP does not sound good.

As for the music, the first disc seems to be favored, with most of my favorite tunes in that set. Discs 2 and 3 are of course good material, but they don't really ever reach the same heights as disc 1. Newsom's voice sounds more balanced here than it ever has. The music changes pace and direction often in the middle of songs, which isn't anything new for her, but she seems to be getting better and better at wrapping a handful of ideas up into a single track. Overall this is a really wonderful set.
