"The Bridge" bears an apt title, in a way - it was to be a bridge to the future of Ace Of Base. Album 1 had been an immense success in 3 versions, but... those songs were primarily signed Joker/Buddah, with little input from the female components of Ace Of Base - namely Linn & Jenny Berggren. Not only! Joker (Jonas Berggren) and Buddah (Ulf Berggren) wished to submit own songs as well. In the name of peace love & understanding and democracy, Mega said "OK, submit demos to songs the way you prefer".

Things had soured a bit for Ace Of base at that point. A so-called fan trespassed the Berggren's home in Gothenburg, was armed with a machete-like combat knife and caused much of a stir, blood, police involved and TV news in Sweden jumping on board. Linn, the real target for the instrusion, wasn't there in the middle of that fatal night while Jenny was, and wrote "Ravine" that deals with her trauma.

By the time all demos were available for review, a major meeting was called for in Stockholm, to evaluate and discuss songs with Mega's international partners. Reps and A&Rs of Metronome / PolyGram, London Records UK as well as Mega's Scandinavian reps congregated and listened to more than 30 songs during what turned out to be a long afternoon. While most of Jonas' and Ulf's stuff was properly recorded, Linn showed up with a cassette (nearly inaudible, BTW) recorded with a 4-track tabletop cassette recorder with just a simple beginner's keyboard & rhythm box!

Needless to say, there was a lot of debating & discussing what tracks to select for the final tracklisting of "The Bridge". Even though the album yielded some successful singles at the time, it also signalled Linn retreating to what seems like a permanent Greta Garbo / Agnetha Fälskog role.
