It's a shame that they didn't release this as a gatefold.

Since everybody knows and loves "the Chronic" there is very little one can say about these songs which hasn't been said before. This re-release however finally gives this undisputed classic a proper remaster. For fans of hiphop this is a no-brainer. Even if you already own the O.G. release you should buy this motherfucker. What used to sound like Dr. Dre & Co with equipment now sounds like a bastardized complete P-funk band getting it on in the studio smoking that shit down to the last roach.

Where's the 5 or better yet the 10 rating!! Absolutely one of the best breakthrough hip-hop albums ever! While most crossovers had to have the watered down mainstream hook, Dr. Dre kept it real, hard, and probably wasn't expecting this album to do as well as it did. The skits are absolutely ridiculous funny.Songs are all tight and engineered to perfection with samples from P-Funk Allstars layered with Dr. Dre's talent. The lyrics are solid from delivery to content. You can party and still hear the serious side which is a direct representation of hip hop culture.West Coast represent!!

_THE_ G-funk album, actually the album that defined the whole term. Dr. Dre at his best as a producer, using P-funk samples to produce something maybe even tighter than the originals.

Snoop Doggy Dogg is an essential ingredient - the album wouldn't probably we nothing without him and his lazy finesse. As a 2xLP the A, B and D sides are pure platinum, the C-side isn't quite as tight, but still above average.

This album, though, is one of those, that provide pleasure purely from the sonic dimension, for the themes the album covers are pretty narrow and disinteresting, which is a problem in all Dre's career as an MC. Self-promotion, dissing, drug abuse/glorification and other similar gangsta themes are numbing in the long run.

Still, this album is a must-have album for anyone interested in the history of hip-hop and/or gangsta rap.
