One of the regrets I have in my music life is not getting into the real 80s music while in high school and this album is one of them. I can still remember the intro of How Soon Is Now and it's punish lyrics. Though it was never my favorite album when I learned about the Smiths, The Queen is Dead is the one that lived in my CD player until I found this album, now Meat Is Murder lives in my iPod.

Don't really give a dang about Morrissey getting royalties anymore. Ever since he decided to not tour in all of Canada because of the seal hunt and pretty much called us all "barbarians" I really don't give a dang about him at all, frankly.

For some reason, this album gets a bit of a bad review in comparison to The Smiths other releases, but I feel that bad review is a bit unjustified. The lyrical content is somewhat the same as any other Smiths albums but the music is just as strong. From the bullied refrains of "The Headmaster Ritual" the morbidness of "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" and of course "How Soon Is Now". Is this album a stroke of genius? No, but it is a strong album nonetheless. Any album with a song that has the line "I'd like to drop my trousers to the Queen" has to get some consideration as a great work of art.
