Led Zeppelin ‎– Physical Graffiti

I m sure that this album is the main source for many alternative/grunge bands in 90's.....& a M U S T for every drummer in this world!

I took a long time to pick up on Led Zeppelin but this was the first album I bought and it is without doubt my favourite of their first 6 albums all of which are recognised as classics. The first disk is pretty much relentless hard rock with a heavy dose of blues and a dash of eastern influence on the unforgetable 'Kashmir'. 'In My Time of Dying' is an epic blue rock masterpiece featuring some of John Bonham's most thunderous drumming. Custard Pie and The Rover are tightly wound devasatingly funky rockers.

The second CD is far more varied and a little more folky. Certainly they were stretching out and experimenting more with tempo and mood but there is no filler here. English rock is not something I tend to enjoy but this is probably the genres towering acheivement. A couple of years before I discovered Led Zeppelin I received a surreal phonecall from my girlfriend at the time saying that Robert Plant was in her parents kitchen looking at some flooring he was thinking of buying (he's a local lad). At the time I didn't consider it to be any big deal. If only I had been there!

Not a bum note on it. Solid rock from the Zeppelin. In Kashmir Led Zeppelin fused rock and esoterica to create one of the most powerful songs in rock history. But it's on the lesser known tracks that Physical Graffitti comes into its own. Down By The Seaside and Custard Pie are absolutely fantastic and sit opposite each other in the miriad of rock sub-genres. Awesome stuff and a serious contender to Led Zep 4 for the best album they've ever released.
