Finally it happened : Led Zeppelin re-united in most of their former glory. The Live Show of the Decade so far. It was great and so is this package. After many years of Page/Marino vs. Barry Diament Remasters we get another choice. John Davis, Head honcho of Alchemy Soho Studios in London, known in the nineties mainly for his work with Kula Shaker and mastering jobs for Music For Freaks, was highly influential recently to his work for a number of hot upcoming Rock Bands (best known are The Arctic Monkeys) was ordered to polish those antique masters. He succeeded, although this means of course: the Sound has changed. For me personally this means more options to choose from; but esp. many audiophiles cry Foul. Well may that be as it is: the Music itself is untouched and the magic still exists.
While scannning the Led Zeppelin Back-Catalogue here on discogs i came across the first Remasters from 1990. I got the 3 LP Set and know what ? There are 24 Songs on the 3 LP set and 24 Songs on Mothership. "When The Levee Breaks" this Song with Bonzo's mighty drumming is the only new song compared to Remasters.: And it is "When The Levee Breaks" the last Song on Side B from Led Zeppelin IV that raises this Mothership through the roof with it's mighty dynamics and John Paul Bonham's unprecedented POWER Drumming. You can crank this Baby up, it is unbelievable - if your system doesn't fail, there is hardly any limit how loud you can listen to this goodies. So what is the verdict ? Worth spending cash on this compilation, when you got the Remasters and the Originals ? I think so : another few months of Zeppelin- Mania ain't too bad and if you want more grab the 2CD version with the additional DVD.
