Long story short, this album is largely equal to Radiohead's HTTT & In Rainbows, combined.

As NME put it (http://www.nme.com/reviews/sigur-ros/7761):

"Sigur Ros : Takk
Like sucking God's cock. Or something"

This is truely one of the most beautiful, awe inspiring, honest pieces of work I have heard in the last few years. It is as if the music incompasses you with a gigantic bubble and transports you to a far away place that just is. It is an incredible piece of musicianship. Dynamic and vibrant. Tight and well produced. Well written above that. What I especially like about this album over their previous is the fact that many of the themes and motifs are not as repeative as say on () where the last half of the album feels like the same song over and over and over and over again. Although the overall album is quite soft, their are bits of pieces here and there that are surprisingly rough and distorted. The second song is one of the few pieces of music that will actually bring tears to my eyes.

I had a chance to see them in Helsinki in a lovely hall designed by architect Alvar Aalto and it was one of the most beautiful, softest nights of my life. They opened with Intro/Glósóli. The warm fuzz of the overdriven bowed guitar disintegrated my body into hyperspace. The entire concert clocked in at just about two hours and they played a good mix of songs from every album. They had a quite nice video backdrop that matched very well with the music. And at the end, the video of the silhouette birds on the wire was quite neat as a bird flew away as each member left the stage. And when the final applause happened, they all flew away as if they were scared off.

I've read and heard so many wonderful reviews of this album, but I really can't find it in my heart to like it as much as I like "Ágætis Byrjun" and "( )". I think it's more mainstream and more accessible than the previous two albums. Not that accessibility is a bad thing, but to me, Sigur Rós music has always been very private - something I'd listen to alone at nights, or something that would help me get through the difficult moments of my life. The music from their previous albums was more minimal, subtle and modestly beautiful, whereas on "Takk...", they've taken a different direction - they've basically made a pretty standard post rock album with no obvious charm. Whereas I can't argue that it does indeed contain some great tunes, I'll never be able to love it as much as I love the ever-gorgeous "Ágætis Byrjun" and "( )".

At this point in my life, if someone asked me for a collection of the most beautiful music, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them Takk... by Sigur Rós. From beginning to end the record is an adventure. I would even take a risk by labeling it as flawless. This music really makes you think, and it takes you somewhere. This is hands down beauty in it's purest form.
