Heavy boot gaze goes up against Ambi orch drone haze. Eluvium's beguiling blend of a post orchestral Stars of the Lid like melodic ambience with a subtle smearing of Hecker heft and Fennesz fuzz wins hands down over Jesu's sludgey grindcore update of the footwear stare. Broadrick brings all the subtlety of Godflesh and Techno Animal to his Jesu project (none), though track a2 is admittedly hard to resist, especially for those who are missing the full-on woozey flange thrill of the Curve, MBV, Ride, Lush tradition. Eluvium unites the best elements of his previous work, and gratifyingly holds the tasteful piano etudes in favour of dirty ambient. Nice pair!
