Reviews & Discussion

As a long-time System 7 fan I have always admired Steve & Miquette's ability to adapt their skills to new developments in electronic music. Allowing Dubfire to remix this amazing track is a continuation of this pioneering spirit, and it does not disappoint. Deeply hypnotic, pulsing, but with subtlety and production skills that make any sound system throb. For me, the joy here is less about big builds and drops than subtle tension and release combined with depth of sound crafting skill, and I've witnessed this mix make dancefloors go bonkers. Great music.

I never thought I'd hear the day when System 7 got a remix from one of the members of the minimal mafia. The Dubfire remix is everything I've come to expect from minimal - zero percussive creativity, a one-note bassline (if you can even call it that), the massive "breakdown to nowhere", and just an overall boring experience that doesn't take you on a journey - not even a stroll. With music like this I can't even appreciate the production values because there really isn't much there to produce. God, I am so tired of this sound, please stop it already! Moving along to the Liquid Soul Remix, at least the energy is kicked up a notch and there is more substance. A lot of the original track's elements make an appearance which is nice. But again, the remixer decides to to stick to a very basic, unchallenging bassline and formulaic approach. I guess this would please the progressive/house fans and is an easy track to mix, but it never really doe it for me. Finally we are treated to the original mix of Space Bird which is, to be expected, a great example of fun, creative, energetic space trance that only System 7 can do. If you liked the trancey tracks from Seventh Wave and Encantado, you'll love this one. Very detailed track with lush production values. In closing, I'd have to discourage System 7 fans from purchasing this - the two remixes really don't compliment the System 7 sound and your money is better spent on the full-length Phoenix album instead.
